Inky Award winners 2018

Today the Inky award winners were announced. There are two Inky awards: the Golden Inky for an Australian book and the Silver Inky for an International book.  A panel of teenagers create a short list from books nominated by teenage readers.  Then readers (under the age of 20) vote online for the winners. We have the Silver Award winner in the library already : The hate u give is the debut title from US author Angie Thomas.  The Golden Inky is now on order - hopefully lands in the library soon!  "Paper Cranes Don't fly" by Peter Vu is a story describing the life of a cancer patient,   Focusing not just on living with cancer, but going through it with the help of patience, love and friendship The Inky Awards is part of the "Inside a Dog" site, part of  the State Library of Victoria.  It has a range of resources including - book recommendations, how to publish your own book and competitions. Library Researcher Week

Library Researcher Week , 8-12 October 2018, will draw together a week of presentations, workshops and discussion of research issues. There will be a range of dynamic and prominent researchers and experts presenting on themes covering publishing, managing research data, social media, researcher profiles and more! Children's book Council of Australia - book of the year short list

On the 17th of August the  CBCA Book of the year awards will be announced.   We have many of the titles that have been shortlisted available in the Bundoora library.   Login to LibrarySearch and place a hold on them if you wish to view, or come in an grab them off the shelves if they are available! Textbook pop-up store for semester 2

Titles on the semester 2 textbook list are being stocked by the Campus Bookstore, and will be available for students to order online .   The Bookstore will also run an RMIT pop-up store for the first week of semester: 16 - 20 July 9:00 am - 5:00 pm.   The pop-up store will be located at the City Campus in building 10/12 (exact location to be finalised). The pop-up store will not stock all titles, only some of the most popular textbooks, due to space restrictions.   Students can pre-order online and use the pop-up store as a pick-up point for collection at no extra charge (or else they can select ‘Home Delivery’ for a small fee of $9.99).   Students can also visit The Campus Bookstore at Monash University Caulfield Campus, which will stock RMIT textbooks.   The Campus Bookstore additionally offer a Rental service for selected textbook titles (please see their website for details - these rentals must be paid for and processed online only).   Please keep an eye on t

Do you use Google Scholar? Google Scholar allows you to search a range of scholarly resources, including journal articles, conference papers, theses, books, preprints, abstracts and technical reports. The library has published a new webpage on making the most of Google Scholar .  It provides information and tips on: Logging into Google Scholar via the Library homepage to access full text articles from RMIT library databases. Signing in directly to Google Scholar to export multiple results to EndNote or other bibliographic managers. Setting up a research Scholar profile to track citations to your articles. Understanding the search result options, including how to find other relevant and related articles.

New database - StoryBox library

There is a fun new resource that the library is testing out, and we would love your feedback!  It is called the Story Box Library, and has a range of Australian children's authors reading their books and telling their stories. It is on trial until the 25th of May, and you have the opportunity to give us your feedback via the provided form.

Early Learning STEM Australia

It has been known for some time that Australian students are falling behind in Science and Maths in Australia .  More recently the Australian Department of Education and Training has initiated a Pilot programme to have students engage digitally with STEM subjects.     This is called ELSA , and has students in preschool exploring science, technology, engineering and mathematics practices. Students trying to find resources within RMIT library for use in the classroom, can always checkout the library guides for assistance. Read all about it At Bundoora library we have a huge range of children's books to read, and also books about teaching reading to student's.   This article from the ABC news article gives some hints on reading to children and encouraging reading: Give it all your attention Engage with the story There's no age limit Pick a book you both enjoy Don't worry about your style Reading to children has a "direct casual effect on their schooling outcomes regardless of their family background and home environment" according to this University of Melbourne document .  So get reading!   We have many resources, some of which are listed below.
